Theory Course 2021
For the beginners we have a 5-week theory course (by zoom) plus an opportunity to ‘meet the bees’ at one of our apiaries (covid restrictions permitting).
The 5 theory classes are on 9th March, 16th March, 23th March, 30th March and 20th April, starting at 7.30pm and finishing at approximately 9.00pm. ‘Meeting the bees’ will be on 24th April but if the weather is inclement this may be postponed.
The theory course will include the lifecycle of the Queen, workers and drones, siting an apiary, equipment needed for bee keeping, what to look for in inspections, introduction to honey, the bee keeping year, bee health and diseases, swarm prevention and control, personal safety and treatment of stings.
Junior members (aged 8 years and above) are welcome, provided that they are accompanied by a responsible adult. We will lend course members a bee suit for the ‘Meet the Bees’ opportunity at the end of the Theory Course.
If your financial circumstances are such that you would find the course fees unaffordable please contact the Treasurer, in confidence (firstname.lastname@example.org). Those under 18 years of age may attend free of charge.
