Practical Beekeeping Course 2020

What: A practical course in Beekeeping covering how to start, inspecting, hygiene, locating the hive, plants for bees, nucleus colonies, queen cells, creating a new colony, basic swarm control, feeding and winter preparation, uniting colonies, transporting hives, honey extraction, handling wax and propolis, disease recognition and management.

Where: We offer three venues at Brooksby near Rearsby, Markfield and Walton near North Kilworth. Please choose which venue suits you. Brooksby has a class room and toilets. The facilities at Markfield and Walton are more basic and some lessons may need to be postponed in the event of inclement weather.

When: weekly for 12 weeks commencing

What you need to bring: Participants are expected to have a full astronaut beesuit, wellingtons and gloves. The association has from time to time some new and used gloves and suits for sale. In particularly hot weather please bring along a drink (note: drinks are available at Brooksby). Junior members (aged 8 years and above) may attend at the discretion of the lead tutor, and provided that they are accompanied by a responsible adult.
